ESG is still relevant despite current turbulence. “Although the term ESG has become politically charged, it remains a critical boardroom topic for several reasons. First, it provides a lens through which the board can assess the risks and opportunities of the company's strategic plans and financial performance. Second, it has become increasingly important to stakeholders such as perspective employees, current employees and shareholders, particularly as they seek to understand the long-term viability of the company. And, finally, increased regulatory scrutiny, such as the SEC's proposed rules on climate-related disclosures, which seek to understand the board's climate-related oversight, is on the horizon.”
